Identifying Features: Male has white crescent over the eye, brown head and breast, grey feathers and legs, face is reddish brown; Female has pale eyebrow, dark eye line.
Fun Facts:
- These birds feed mainly by skimming rather than upending.
- Their breeding habitat is grassland adjacent to shallow marshes and steppe lakes.
