Scientific Name: Dendrocopos mahrattensis
Common Name: Yellow-crowned Woodpecker
Other Name: Mahratta woodpecker

Identifying Features: Pale-headed, heavily spotted on sides, Irregular brown cheek and neck patches, yellowish crown.

Fun Facts:

  • Favors dry arid areas with relatively open foliage.
  • The specific epithet mahrattensis is from Marhatta, a historical region in the modern Indian state of Maharashtra.
