Spotted Dove

Scientific Name: Streptopelia chinensis 
Common Name: Spotted Dove
Other Name: Mountain dove, Pearl-necked dove, Lace-necked dove, Spotted turtle-dove

Identifying Features: rosy buff coloured body, patch of white spots on black base seen on neck region, reddish pink legs, brown and grey feathers, white vent.

Fun Facts:

  • Spotted doves move around in pairs or small groups as they forage on the ground for grass seeds, grains, fallen fruits and seeds of other plants.
  • Both parents take part in building the nest, incubating and feeding the young.
  • Abnormal plumages such as leucism can sometimes occur in the wild.
