Oriental Turtle Dove

Scientific Name: Streptopelia orientalis
Common Name: Oriental Turtle Dove
Other Name: Rufous turtle dove

Identifying Features: black and white striped patch on the side neck, pinkish breast, orange-brown wing feathers giving scaly appearance, wedge shaped tail.

Fun Facts:

  • Predominantly granivorous and forages on the ground.
  • Nests take about two days to build with the male gathering material and the female placing it. Males were found to incubate in the day and the female by night.
