Identifying Features: large yellow-orange eyes, black rings encircling eyes, big head, short neck, broad wings, short black bill, white and brown body, females larger than males.
Fun Facts:
- The short-eared owl occurs on all continents except Antarctica and Australia; thus it has one of the most widespread distributions of any bird.
- This owl is known to lure predators away from its nest by appearing to have a crippled wing.
- These owls are generally monogamous.
