Red-crested Pochard

Scientific Name: Rhodonessa rufina
Common Name: Red-crested Pochard
Other Names: Lal chonch, Lal sir

Identifying Features: red bill, water bird, orange head, black body, white & grey wings, red eyes

Fun Facts:

  • They have social behavior and often form groups in winters to share the company of other diving duck species.
  • The non-breeding and male red-crested pochards molt and become flightless for a period of 4 weeks between June to August.
