Identifying Features: black half-collar, pinkish grey body, red legs, black beak, blue-grey wing patch

Fun Facts:

  • In Greek mythology, Decaocto was a servant girl who was tranformed into a dove by Gods to escape her unhappy treatment. Hence the species got its name.
  • They are one of the few species that can drink water with their head down. Most of the other birds use to scoop water and tip their heads back to let the water run down.
