Brown Crake

Scientific Name: Amaurornis akoolvia
Common Name: Brown Crake
Other Name: Brown bush-hen

Identifying Features: brown body; face, breast, and belly are grey; beak yellow-green from below

Fun Facts:

  • The brown crake makes alarming call when it see predator or human to alert other birds.
  • Despite its use of sheltered habitats, this is one of the bolder rails, and can be seen wandering in the open
