Curlew Sandpiper

Scientific Name: Calidris ferruginea
Common Name: Curlew Sandpiper

Identifying Features: dark brown upper parts, reddish-brown head and underparts, white undertail, black long bill, black legs

Fun Facts:

  • Highly gregarious, and will form flocks with other calidrid waders, particularly dunlin.
  • It forages in soft mud on marshes and the coast. It mostly eats insects and other small invertebrates.
