Common Name: Common Crane
Other Name: Eurasian crane

Identifying Features: grey body, black forehead, white streak extending from behind the eyes to the upper back, red crown

Fun Facts:

  • Like most cranes, this species displays indefinite monogamous pair bonds.
  • Common crane plays a very important part in Irish culture and folklore.
  • The common crane is a fairly social bird while not breeding. Flocks of up to 400 birds may be seen flying together during migration.
