Common Name: Baya Weaver, Sughari, Suyam
Other Names: Baya, Son chiri, Bijra, Babui

Identifying Features: Short square tail, conical beak, yellow crown and breast, brown streaked wings

Fun Facts:

  • Baya weaver is a weaving bird which is best known for its hanging nests constructed by using leaves.
  • According to a local myth, Baya used to stick fireflies to their nest walls using mud in order to light up the interior of their nests during nights.
