Baillons Crake

Scientific Name: Porzana pusilla
Common Name: Baillon’s Crake 
Other Name: Marsh crake

Identifying Features: brown upperparts with some white markings, blue-grey face and underparts, green legs, long toes, short tail

Fun Facts:

  • Very secretive in the breeding season, and are then mostly heard rather than seen.
  • These birds probe with their bill in mud or shallow water, also picking up food by sight.
