Alexandrine Parakeet

Scientific Name: Psittacula eupatria
Common Name: Alexandrine Parakeet
Other Names: Hiraman tota

Identifying Features: Yellow-tipped red beak, dark green plumage, maroon patched wings, large beak, black collared ring, long tail.

 Fun Facts:

  • Named after emperor Alexander The Great, who is said to have had numerous Alexandrine parrots exported to Europe and the Mediterranean, due to its nobility and popularity among the upper class.
  • They are considered to be chewing machines which need lot of softwood toys to keep them happy.
